Both products are very well designed. Quality plastic parts with smart tooling; I’m not sure what other customers are complaining about. I chose the largest size makers, but that’s because I wanted the option to make smaller quantities or larger quantities. Zero regrets! Jar sizes are wide for my small hands, but especially nice for getting in good stirring, for easy cleaning, and the odd occasion when I need to fish out grains. If I cradle the jar in my arm when pouring, works even better. Minimal chance of broken glass. Very minor complaint #1:: Be careful to only rotate scraper in the same direction you screw on the lid. Otherwise, you’ll be covered in kefir. Newbie tip: Get a simple, fine-mesh, plastic sieve at the grocery store. You’ll need it to catch your grains when you first start cultivating them. The squidgy bits will, at first, slip through the built-in sieve, even the smaller slots. Once they’re growing away, you won’t need the separate sieve. Your real challenge will be slowing down the fermentation! Overall, top marks for a sensible way to keep the kefir making tidy and practical. What doesn’t get drunk, I turn into cheese. Cheese takes up even less space for storage and delights me to have usable material for many, many more recipes. About the cheesemaker: It’s large, but we love kefir whey and cheese enough that we just remove a shelf in the fridge above the vegetable bin, and then there’s plenty of room. When pressing, the press head will tilt to the cheese side that is less dense. A chopstick or stick anything can help set things aright for a little bit. Just accept that you’ll repack your final cheese into form or grab a cheese harp for the perfect flat-top cut. Thank Kefirko for a smart product. Otherwise, I would have never had patience for dealing with the whole cheesecloth/coffee filter/sieve/pot ensemble much less be willing to give up kitchen real estate to such a set up!
